Barber Shop Pole

Description

Barber shop pole at one of THREE barbershops on my block. This one is Cut Factory on Forsyth St., which is by the main entrance to my building, the Healey.

Trivia: Did you know the original of the barber pole? It's actually rather gruesome. It evolved from "barbers" of ages past, say the Middle Ages, being involved not really so much as haircuts as other work like dentistry, minor surgery, etc. A "barber" could extra teeth, remove growths, bleed you, etc. And to market themselves, barbers would hang a pole outside their shop or stall showing their bloody towels. I mean, you don't have to be literate to understand that. Over time barbers' function changed but the pole remained. Not sure what the blue stripe stands for but that was a later addition.
