Description

Color shot of a frieze on the exterior of the the Fulton County Dept. of Health and Wellness, a.k.a the county health department, in Downtown Atlanta. The building is 1950s. One of them shows a doctor fending off Death. I'm not sure what this one is depicting. I will note that it appears that originally the words above were something like "Fulton Department of Health for Women" or something, so this might be a depicting of gynecology or women's health. Not sure though. Suggestions welcome!

The statue in the middle is of Hygieia, goddess of health and cleanliness, daughter of Asclepius, god of medicine, who's snake entwined staff is often confused with the Caduceus, both symbols frequently used in the medical industry.
