Purgatory Chasm, Middletown, Rhode Island.
The path up to the chasm and cliffs was mostly exposed rock, the same stuff the cliffs are made of. Growing on that was a ton of super hardy coastal plants like wild roses.
Purgatory Chasm
Purgatory Chasm is a narrow cleft in the rock ledges on the east side of Easton Point, formed by the eroding action of the sea over eons. You drive up and park, walk through woods filled wild roses, then there this little bridge over a CHASM. And it's roaring as the sea goes in a out. Mom said it reminded her of Nova Scotia. Then you go down paths to these wicked cool cliffs with a spectacular ocean view, with gulls and cormorants flying over. We sat there a while. Such a fantastic spot!
